The 6-flute SSI-6 offers a middle ground, allowing machinists to increase productivity without sacrificing process stability.

At the core of the SSI-6 design is a 6-flute, variably indexed geometry combined with a constant helix. This configuration helps reduce harmonic vibration while maintaining consistent cutting forces, especially during high-efficiency milling strategies. The result is a smoother cut, more predictable tool behavior, and improved surface finish across a wide range of materials.

The tool is built on a premium carbide substrate and finished with C35 Coating. C35 is a Silicon base hard coating with outstanding wear resistance even at high temperatures. It has outstanding adhesion with an extremely smooth surface. It's most suited for hardened steels up to 70 HRC, stainelss steels and high temp alloys.

This combination geometry and coating provides for longer tool life in abrasive materials while maintaining edge integrity during extended run times. For shops running unattended or lights-out operations, that added reliability becomes increasingly important.

From an application standpoint, the SSI-6 is suited for both finishing and roughing operations, particularly where consistent engagement and controlled chip evacuation are critical. The geometry allows the tool to run aggressively when needed, while still delivering the surface quality required for semi-finish or finish passes. Optional chip-breaker configurations further expand its usefulness in specific cutting conditions.

To support flexibility on the machine, the SSI-6 is offered in a broad range of diameters, corner radii, and lengths of cut, including stub, standard, long, and extra-long options. This makes it easier to apply the same cutting strategy across multiple setups without changing tooling families.

DataFlute has also released this short overview and cutting demonstration video that shows the SSI-6 in real machining conditions. The video takes a closer look at chip formation, stability, and surface finish, helping machinists better understand where the tool fits within their existing processes.

According to the video, "the SSI-6 is available in over 300 SKU's and ranges from 1/8" to 1' and the largest radius offering in the industry from sharp corners to .250" radius depending on diameter" and is available in stub, standard, long and extra long lengths.

As machining strategies continue to evolve toward higher efficiency and reduced cycle times, tools like the SSI-6 highlight how incremental changes in geometry and flute count can deliver substantial gains on the shop floor.

Rather than replacing existing solutions, the SSI-6 gives machinists another option when neither a 5-flute nor a 7-flute tool is the ideal fit.

Your browser does not support viewing this document. Chips don’t break, heat builds fast, and any instability at the cutting edge shows up as work-hardening, chatter, or sudden failure. The Better Edge stainless steel drill line is designed specifically around those conditions, with geometry, carbide, and coating choices aimed at predictable performance rather than general-purpose compromise.

Point Geometry Designed for Control
The Better Edge stainless drill series uses a 135° point angle, selected to reduce thrust forces and stabilize the drill as it enters stainless steels such as 304 and 316. This point angle helps limit work-hardening at the surface and supports a more controlled start in tougher austenitic materials.

Rather than a conventional split point, the drill features Better Edge’s Bat Wing point geometry. This design uses contoured gash thinning to shorten the effective chisel edge and initiate cutting quickly. The gash shape is curved and symmetrical, which improves self-centering behavior and reduces axial load without weakening the core. The result is a cleaner start with less tendency for the drill to walk, even in harder or uneven surfaces.

The cutting edges incorporate a radius edge preparation instead of a sharp corner. This radius increases edge strength and improves durability when drilling heat-generating, gummy materials. It also contributes to stable centering at entry and helps maintain edge integrity during continuous feed drilling.

Helix Angle and Chip Control
The drills use a 30° helix angle, which makes a good between balance chip evacuation and tool stability. In gummy materials like stainless steel, the flute design allows chips to flow smoothly without packing, while maintaining enough core strength to support deeper holes.

After coating, the flutes are polished, further improving chip movement through the flutes. This combination allows the drill to run in continuous feed without pecking, which helps maintain a consistent cutting action and reduces work-hardening at the hole wall.

Carbide Substrate – UltraCarbide K40UF
Better Edge builds these drills from UltraCarbide K40UF, a sub-micron, ultra-fine grain solid carbide grade. This substrate is engineered to provide a balance of toughness and wear resistance and is really well suited for stainless steels and nickel-based alloys.

Fine grain carbide improves edge stability under heat and load, which is critical when drilling materials that concentrate heat at the cutting edge. In shop conditions, this type of substrate supports consistent tool life and tolerates minor setup variability better than coarser carbide grades.

Stainless Steel Drill Carbide Substrate K40UF

BALINIT® PERTURA Coating – Built for Heat-Intensive Materials
The Better Edge stainless drill series is coated with BALINIT® PERTURA, an AlTiN-based PVD coating applied using arc deposition technology. This coating is designed for drilling applications where heat concentration, cutting pressure, and edge stability are the primary challenges.

PERTURA provides a coating hardness of approximately 35 GPa, with controlled intrinsic stress that helps maintain coating adhesion under load.

The coating is rated for maximum service temperatures up to 1000°C, making it well-suited for stainless steel alloys that retain heat at the cutting edge.

That being said, while these drills are optimized for stainless steels such as 304 and 316, the coating and substrate combination also supports drilling in titanium, nickel-based alloys, and other heat-resistant materials. In these materials, thermal stability and oxidation resistance are critical to maintaining edge integrity and predictable tool life.

The smooth coating surface contributes to reduced coefficient of friction at the cutting interface and this leads to consistent chip evacuation, particularly important in materials liek the ones we are talking about that tend to smear or gall. PERTURA is compatible with internal coolant, external coolant, MQL, and dry machining, allowing flexibility across different machine platforms and setups.

Diameter Range and Length Options
The Better Edge stainless steel drill line covers diameters from approximately 1 mm (0.040") up to 13 mm (0.512"), addressing both small precision holes and common production sizes.

Multiple length-of-cut options are available, including standard 4×D drills and extended 6×D configurations. This allows machinists to select a drill length appropriate to the hole depth rather than defaulting to over-length tools, improving rigidity and chip control in tougher materials.
Metric and inch sizes are available, with typical delivery in one to two weeks, and coolant-through options are offered for applications requiring additional chip evacuation support.

Application Focus
These drills are optimized for:

Stainless steels, particularly 304 and 316

Nickel-based alloys

Applications where continuous feed drilling is preferred

The geometry is suitable for both through holes and blind holes, and the design intent is to eliminate peck drilling where possible to maintain stable cutting conditions.

Shop-Floor Perspective
From a machinist’s standpoint, the value of this drill line is in how the pieces work together. The Bat Wing 135° point angle geometry reduces entry stress, the 30° helix and polished flutes manage chips, the K40UF carbide maintains edge stability, and the BALINIT® PERTURA coating handles heat and friction.

The result is a drill that runs predictably in materials that tend to punish marginal tooling, with the added benefit that regrinding and longer overall tool life can contribute to real cost savings over time.

Want to try some out in your application? Get in contact with our team here at F&L Technical Sales and we'll get you set up for some testing! You can also CLICK HERE and take a look at the online Stainless Steel Drill offering from Better Edge right now!

Heimatec 1:4 Spindle Speeder – When Your Lathe Runs Out of RPM Before the Tool Does

https://www.fltechnical.com/news/heimatec-14-spindle-speeder-when-your-lathe-runs-out-of-rpm-before-the-tool-does

https://www.fltechnical.com/news/heimatec-14-spindle-speeder-when-your-lathe-runs-out-of-rpm-before-the-tool-does#comments

Heimatec

Platinum Tooling

Spindle Speeder

When your live tooling runs out of RPM before your cutter does, the Heimatec 1:4 spindle speeder steps in to mechanically push speeds up to 48,000 RPM and unlock high-speed micro-milling, engraving, and fine-feature work directly on your lathe. by Bernard Martin If you’ve ever tried to run small end mills, engraving tools, or micro drills in a live-tool lathe, you already know the problem. Once you drop below a certain cutter diameter, surface speed falls off fast, tool life suffers, and cycle time balloons.

That’s exactly where the Heimatec 1:4 spindle speeder earns its keep.

This is a purely mechanical speed increaser designed specifically for live-tool lathes and Swiss machines. You drive it with your existing live spindle, and internally it multiplies that speed by four. Feed it 12,000 RPM, and you get 48,000 RPM at the tool. From a practical standpoint, that puts it among the fastest mechanical speeders available for turning platforms today.

Why 1:4 Matters in your CNC
If you’re running a 0.040" or 1/16" carbide end mill in aluminum, brass, plastics, or even mild steel, spindle speed becomes the limiting factor very quickly. On a typical live tool capped at 6,000–12,000 RPM, you’re nowhere near the surface footage those cutters are designed for. Instead of cutting, the tool starts rubbing, edges chip prematurely, and tool life drops off fast.

With a 1:4 speeder, the math changes immediately:

A 10,000 RPM live spindle becomes 40,000 RPM at the cutter

A 12,000 RPM live spindle becomes 48,000 RPM at the cutter

That puts micro-milling, engraving, chamfering, slotting, and fine-feature work back into a proper cutting zone. You’re no longer compensating with feed tricks or shallow depth-of-cut just to keep small tools alive.

Mechanical Speed – No Air, No Electric, No Compromise
One of the reasons Heimatec speeders are trusted in production environments is that they’re fully mechanical. No air turbines. No electric motors. No cables. No external power.

Inside the housing is a precision gear train designed to handle high rotational speeds with controlled heat and predictable torque transfer. That means:

Stable RPM under load

Repeatable performance shift to shift

No dependency on shop air quality or electrical connections

For shops running unattended or lights-out operations, that reliability matters. There’s nothing extra to fail, and nothing to tune beyond standard live-tool setup.

Designed for Live-Tool Lathes and Swiss Machines
These speed increasers aren’t generic add-ons. They’re built specifically for turning platforms.
You can configure them for:

OD work

Face work

External coolant or internal coolant-through designs

Mounting options cover virtually every common interface, including:

VDI

BMT

Swiss-style platforms, including Citizen models

They’re compatible with BMT turrets from builders like Doosan, Haas, Miyano, and Nakamura, and many configurations are stocked in North America for quick delivery. That matters when a process change is holding up production and you don’t have time for a long factory lead.

Where You’ll See the Biggest Gains
This isn’t a tool you buy for general-purpose milling. It shines in specific, high-value applications:

Micro-milling features that would normally require a secondary machine

Engraving part numbers, logos, or data matrices directly on the lathe

Fine chamfers and deburring where edge quality actually matters

Small-diameter drilling where proper surface speed prevents breakage

In many cases, the speeder eliminates a secondary operation entirely. Parts stay in the same setup, concentricity is preserved, and cycle time drops because you’re not moving parts between machines.

Support and Availability in North America
In North America, Heimatec live tooling and speed increasers are supported and supplied by Platinum Tooling Technologies, based in Prospect Heights, Illinois. And the team at F&L Technical Sales provide on-site technical service. Common configurations are stocked domestically, with additional options available from factory inventory on short lead times.

From a shop-owner perspective, that means you’re not experimenting with an unsupported accessory. You’re buying into a mature live-tooling ecosystem with local inventory, application support, and established distribution.

Bottom Line for your Shop Floor
If your CNC lathe already has live tooling but keeps running out of RPM before your cutters are happy, a 1:4 mechanical speeder is one of the cleanest ways to unlock capability you already paid for. You’re not upgrading the machine. You’re extending its usable range into high-speed territory where small tools actually perform the way they were designed to.

At up to 48,000 RPM, the Heimatec 1:4 speeder is a practical solution for turned parts that demand fine features, tight finishes, and faster cycle times—all without adding another machine to the floor.

Get Special Cutting Tool Inserts Faster with Horn USA Greenline

https://www.fltechnical.com/news/get-special-cutting-tool-inserts-faster-with-horn-usa-greenline

https://www.fltechnical.com/news/get-special-cutting-tool-inserts-faster-with-horn-usa-greenline#comments

Horn Greenline

Horn USA

Inserts

When a print changes or a line is down, waiting 6-12 weeks isn’t an option. That’s why Horn USA’s Greenline service is valuable for shop owners, production managers, and manufacturing engineers who need faster access to special tooling without compromising quality.

Faster Turnaround on Low-Volume Special Inserts
Greenline is Horn USA’s standardized manufacturing process designed to produce low-volume special inserts with significantly reduced lead times. Eligible tools typically ship within five business days after design approval, helping shops avoid the extended delays often associated with special insert manufacturing.

The program supports a wide range of applications including grooving, parting, slotting, and form tools. Many common geometries, coatings, and coolant-through options are supported, making Greenline practical for real-world machining requirements rather than limited one-off scenarios.

How Greenline Works
When a special insert is quoted and entered, Horn USA’s system automatically evaluates the design against Greenline eligibility criteria. If the tool qualifies, it is routed through the Greenline manufacturing process automatically. There is no separate request or special ordering step required.

Eligibility is based on factors such as insert type, coating selection, edge count, and order quantity. While some tool families and coatings are excluded, a large percentage of commonly requested special inserts fall within the Greenline guidelines.

No Added Cost for Faster Delivery
One of the most important aspects of Greenline is that there is no additional charge for the accelerated turnaround. Horn USA offers this as a value-added service, allowing shops to shorten lead times without increasing tooling costs.

The five-day lead time begins once the tool drawing is approved, giving production teams a clear and predictable timeline for planning jobs and minimizing downtime.

Why It Matters on the Shop Floor
Machining environments continue to demand flexibility and responsiveness. Whether you’re reacting to print changes, running short production batches, or supporting just-in-time manufacturing, faster access to special inserts can make a measurable difference.

Horn USA's Greenline combines proven insert quality with reduced lead times, helping shops stay productive and on schedule when standard tooling options are not enough.

Get in touch with F&L Techncial Sales to learn more and get started with Greenline!

Holding Round Parts in a CNC mill – How Mate’s ER Collet Holders Work on the Shop Floor

https://www.fltechnical.com/news/holding-round-parts-in-a-cnc-mill-how-mates-er-collet-holders-work-on-the-shop-floor

https://www.fltechnical.com/news/holding-round-parts-in-a-cnc-mill-how-mates-er-collet-holders-work-on-the-shop-floor#comments

ER Collet Fixturing

Mate Workholding

Workholding

by Bernard Martin Any time you’re trying to mill round stock, pins, bushings, or small cylindrical parts, the challenge is always the same – hold it securely, keep it concentric, and don’t waste time fussing with setup. That’s exactly where Mate’s ER collet holders come into play in your milling machine.

Mate Workholding’s ER holders are built around standard ER collets, typically ER32 and ER40, which gives you a broad clamping range in fine steps. ER collets clamp in 1 mm increments (0.039"), but because each collet has a collapse range, you can cover a wide span of diameters with just a few collets. For an ER 32 that means from 2 mm to 20 mm (0.079" to 0.787") and for an ER 40 from 3 mm to 26 mm (0.118" to 1.024"). That makes it easy to move from part to part without swapping jaws or re-indicating every time.

The holder itself mounts into Mate’s modular workholding system, so instead of clamping a round part sideways in a vise, you’re gripping it concentrically from the outside. That means better alignment, more even clamping pressure, and less chance of distorting thin-wall parts. For operations like profiling, cross-drilling, engraving, or light milling, this kind of grip can be both faster and more repeatable than soft jaws.

Rigidity is another key advantage of using an ER collet holder. An ER collet uses an 8° per side taper, a free-releasing locking taper just like your steep taper toolhodler, so the part is radially clamped, not pulled axially into the holder. As the nut is tightened, the collet collapses evenly around the workpiece, creating uniform grip along the full contact length. That even, 360-degree clamping helps keep the part stable under cutting loads without introducing length variation from part to part.

This becomes especially important when running small tools, holding tight tolerances, or making finishing passes where chatter and part movement show up immediately. Built from hardened tool steel, Mate’s ER holders are designed to maintain that grip and repeatability cycle after cycle in production use.

Where these holders really shine is in repeat work. Once you have a part length set and your program proven out, you can load parts quickly and expect consistent results. That’s especially useful in short-run production, prototype work, or any job where you’re constantly changing parts but still need predictable positioning.

If you’re looking for a cleaner, more controlled way to hold round or cylindrical parts on a vertical machining center, Mate Workholding’s ER collet holders are a practical solution worth considering.

Talk with F&L Technical Sales to see which ER sizes and holder configurations make the most sense for the kind of parts you run every day.

A Different Way to Think About Workholding – Worth a Few Minutes of Your Time

https://www.fltechnical.com/news/a-different-way-to-think-about-workholding-worth-a-few-minutes-of-your-time

https://www.fltechnical.com/news/a-different-way-to-think-about-workholding-worth-a-few-minutes-of-your-time#comments

Adhesive Workholding

Blue Photon

Workholding

by Bernard MartinMost machinists have a pretty set idea of what workholding looks like — vises, clamps, fixtures, soft jaws, and the compromises that come with them. By controlling vibration right in the bar itself, the system improves surface finish, protects insert life, and gives you more freedom to increase feedrates without sacrificing accuracy.

For anyone who has tried boring at 6×D or deeper, this feature alone is a major advantage.

One Universal Bar – Five Quick-Change Heads
Dorian built this system around a universal anti-vibration boring and milling bar. No matter what job you’re running, you start with the same bar and just swap the head on the front end. The bar is available in 42 mm, 50 mm, and 63 mm diameters with 4×D, 6×D, 8×D, and 10×D boring ratios, so you can pick the length that fits your envelope instead of fighting with a bar that's too long or too short.

The bar has a quick-change connection on the front and a machine taper connection on the back, so it becomes the common “spine” of the system. Once it’s locked into your HSK, CAT, BT, or SK holder, it stays there – you only change the head.

That one bar accepts five different quick-change heads:

Single insert finishing boring head – for dialing in size and surface finish when tolerance actually matters. This is what you reach for when you care about roundness, straightness, and a clean bore instead of just getting the hole roughed out.

Twin insert roughing boring head – for pulling big chips out fast. Two inserts share the load so you can bump up feed and still keep cutting forces balanced.

Step insert roughing boring head – for staged, heavy roughing where you want to peel material in steps, thin the chip, and keep the cut stable at long overhangs.

ER collet end mill and drill head – an ER-style collet holder mounted on the same quick-change interface. That lets you run end mills or drills off the anti-vibration bar when you need reach and stability at the same time, instead of hanging tools out of a standard holder.

Face mill adapter head – a face mill interface that turns the bar into a rigid, long-reach facing tool for squaring, shoulder work, and surfacing at depth.

All five heads use the same quick-change connection, locked with a taper screw and orientation/drive features so you don’t need special tools or a big routine to swap them. You slide the head in, seat it on the taper, tighten the locking screw, and you’re back cutting. Coolant feeds through the bar and out through the head, so chip evacuation and tool life stay under control even at the longer ratios.

If you don’t need to swap heads, Dorian also offers integral versions where these same head styles are built directly onto dedicated bars. Those are aimed at shops that want maximum rigidity and repeat setups on a single operation, but the universal bar with five quick-change heads is the core of the Milling Solution system and where most shops will start.

Holder Taper Options
The bars can be mounted using HSK-A, SK, CAT, or BT tapers, so it’s easy to match your current machine lineup. Each taper is available in common sizes and configured to transmit torque without sacrificing the damping characteristics of the bar.

Why Machinists Notice the Difference
The advantage of the Dorian system shows up the moment you start working at length. Any time you’re boring, facing, or milling with a long overhang, the bar becomes the limiting factor. A bar that can control vibration gives you more usable cutting parameters, more consistent finishes, and fewer surprises mid-cut.

In day-to-day use, the system stands out because:

The internal damping lets the bar stay stable at ratios where a conventional holder would start chattering.

Coolant runs through the bar and exits at the head, which keeps heat in check and clears chips even when you’re working deep into a part.

One universal bar supports five different heads, so you don’t need to dedicate multiple tool pockets or changeholders every time you switch from roughing to finishing.

The consistent connection between bar and head keeps your offsets repeatable, reducing touch-off time and helping you maintain predictable results from part to part.

If your work includes deep bores, extended milling reaches, or operations where tool stability directly affects tolerance, the Dorian system provides a controlled, repeatable platform. Cuts stay smoother, tool life becomes more predictable, and setups become easier to manage across different operations.

Your browser does not support viewing this document. The introduction of sintered chip breaking geometry is a pretty significant advancement in small boring, addressing one of the most persistent challenges in internal machining: uncontrolled chip formation.

What Makes the New Supermini Different
At the heart of this innovation is the sintered geometry built directly into the insert. Unlike traditional chip breakers that are ground or laser-cut as a secondary operation, Horn’s geometry is fully sintered into the cutting edge during manufacture.

This approach delivers several advantages:

Reliable chip control across a wide range of materials. The geometry actively guides and shapes swarf, encouraging predictable chip breakage even during light feeds and small infeed settings.

Reduced downtime and smoother cutting. Long, stringy chips that wrap around the tool or clog the hole are dramatically reduced, increasing uptime and reducing secondary chip-removal tasks.

High process stability. The geometry extends well into the corner radius of the insert, providing consistent chip control across internal, face, copy and reverse turning operations.

Built for Precision and Practicality

Boring, profile turning, internal grooving, threading, chamfering, face grooving, drilling and slot broaching: The Supermini tool system can be adapted for numerous machining operations.

The solid carbide inserts are used for boring from a diameter of 0.2 mm to around 10 mm. Horn developed the carbide blanks for the tool as a teardrop shape. This enables large, precise contact surfaces in the tool holder, which results in greater rigidity of the overall system.

The teardrop shape prevents the insert from twisting, which leads to consistently precise positioning of the center height of the tool. With long tool overhangs, it reduces deflection and minimizes vibration during turning.

Depending on the application and the diameter to be machined, Horn offers the inserts in three different sizes (types 105, 109 and 110) and different blank types.

The "Supermini" tool system - now with chip breaker geometry - can be adapted and used for numerous machining operations.

All types allow internal coolant supply directly to the cutting zone. The Horn tool portfolio contains around 2,500 different standard variants of the Supermini. In addition, Horn solves users' machining problems with countless customized solutions.

Chipbreakers make all the difference
One of the biggest challenges in internal machining is the generation of long chips. Depending on the material, boring often leads to stringers that wrap around the tool, clog holes or, in the worst case, lead to tool breakage. This is where chip breaking geometry can help. It guides and shapes the chip and causes it to break.

On the left: Without Chipbreaking technology can lead to a rats nest of chips. On the Right: chip breaking geometry RS105.1833.2.6.U20

According to Horn USA : "Previously, specially lasered or ground chip breaking geometries were used for this purpose. However, this increased the cost of the inserts. With the new Supermini type 105, Horn has succeeded in developing a universal boring tool with sintered chip breaking geometry. The tool offers high process reliability due to its good chip control.

The cutting edge geometry extends far into the corner radius of the insert. This ensures chip control even with small infeed settings. The geometry can be used universally for different material groups and is suitable for internal, face, copy and back turning.

In addition to the geometry, Horn optimized the carbide blanks of the inserts to have greater rigidity and an even more stable cutting edge area. The coolant supply has also been revised. The new insert is compatible with numerous types of 105 tool holders. Horn offers the inserts as standard in three lengths (15.0 mm, 20.0 mm and 25.0 mm) and in carbide grades TH35 and IG35. The corner radius is 0.2 mm. The tool is suitable for use from a bore diameter of 6 mm. The wide range of applications for the inserts goes hand in hand with their cost-effectiveness, as the price of the new Supermini is similar to that of the standard insert without geometry."

Performance in Real-World Use
Early adopters of the new Supermini generation report significant improvements in chip behavior and process reliability. Components previously prone to entangled swarf now produce fine, manageable chips that no longer interrupt machining cycles. Tool life remains in line with conventional inserts while delivering the added benefit of reduced operator intervention.

Applications and Flexibility
Because the new sintered chip breaking geometry performs well across material groups—from steels to stainless alloys—it is suitable for a wide array of industries and part types. The universal design makes it ideal for internal boring in precision components where chip control, surface finish, and tight tolerances are critical.

Whether used in aerospace, medical, automotive, or general precision machining, the updated Horn USA Supermini system stands out as a robust solution for challenging internal turning tasks.

Parlec Turbo Turn – Custom Toolholders Without the Wait

https://www.fltechnical.com/news/parlec-turbo-turn-custom-toolholders-without-the-wait

https://www.fltechnical.com/news/parlec-turbo-turn-custom-toolholders-without-the-wait#comments

CAT Holders

Parlec

Parlec Turbo Turn

Toolholders

by Bernard Martin Standard toolholders don’t always get the job done. Maybe you’ve got a deep-pocketed part that needs a long-reach solution. Maybe you’re dealing with tight clearances on a 5-axis job. Or maybe you’re chasing better finishes and tighter tolerances, and your current setup just isn’t cutting it—literally. When that happens, you’re usually stuck waiting weeks for a custom solution. That’s where Parlec’s Turbo Turn changes the game.

Now, despite the name, this has nothing to do with turning. “Turbo Turn” refers to fast turnaround—as in, how quickly Parlec can engineer and build a custom toolholder that’s made specifically for your application. It’s all about speed, precision, and eliminating the production delays that typically come with special tooling.

Turbo Turn is Parlec’s rapid-response solution for CNC milling machines—vertical, horizontal, or 5-axis. If your part or fixture setup doesn’t play nice with standard holders, Turbo Turn gives you a made-to-order alternative that’s rigid, precise, and ready to go.
These holders are fully customized, but there are a few key areas that Parlec commonly modifies—and they make a big difference in real-world performance.

Need a specific taper? Turbo Turn supports CAT, BT, DIN, NMTB, and HSK tapers, and other options are available upon request. If you’re working with BIG-PLUS®, Ingersoll, or custom spindles, you can also request Simulfit® dual-contact tapers for better rigidity.

Coolant configuration is another big one. You can specify coolant input through the flange or center (AD/B), and set up coolant output ports or grooves to match your cutting tool’s requirements. If your operation depends on high-pressure through-coolant, Parlec can build that right in.

You can also define your gauge length exactly—no more stacking spacers or making compromises in tool reach. And if you’re running high-RPM spindles, balance holes can be added to keep everything dialed in for smoother rotation. There’s even an option for an RFID chip pocket so you can integrate tool data tracking without additional hardware clamped to the machine.

As far as interfaces, you’re not limited to just one style. Parlec’s Turbo Turn supports shrink-fit (standard and heavy wall), facemill holders (coolant or standard), and ER collet chucks across BT, CAT, and HSK formats. They even offer aerospace-specific solutions if you’re working in high-spec environments.

The big win here is that all these customizations are built into the initial design—so you’re not modifying a standard toolholder after the fact. And because Parlec builds these fast, you’re not waiting around while your job sits idle. You get exactly what your application calls for—and you get it quickly.

If you’ve been making do with compromises or waiting too long for “specials,” it’s time to look at Turbo Turn. Parlec built this program for shops that don’t have time to wait and don’t want to settle for anything less than perfect-fit performance.

Want to dive deeper?
